However, having a little extra fat in some parts of the body is also beneficial for overall health.

A recent study by Rutgers North American Disease Intervention in the United States found that people with slightly higher leg fat were less likely to develop high blood pressure.

The study was presented at the American Heart Association's "Hypertension 2020 Scientific Session" conference.

Research

A total of 6,000 adults took part, all of whom had a high blood pressure of varying severity.

Someone has ‘systolic high blood pressure’ i.e. the number above the standard of blood pressure is higher, the number of ‘diastolic high blood pressure’ or below the standard is higher and ‘combined high blood pressure’ where both are higher

Results

X-rays were taken to find out the level of body fat tissue in the participants.


A comparative review found that those with more fat in their legs were 61 percent less likely to develop 'combined high blood pressure'.

On the other hand, they are less likely to develop diastolic high blood pressure.

However, having too much fat in the waist is harmful. However, excessive foot fat does not cause damage.

Normal blood pressure is 120 systolic and 60 diastolic. When someone's blood pressure becomes 130 'systolic' and 71 'diastolic', your blood pressure is higher.

And when the blood pressure reaches 180/120, it is called a 'hypertensive crisis'.

According to the American Heart Association, high blood pressure can lead to heart attack, renal failure, stroke, heart failure, vision loss, and sexual dysfunction.
