On Tuesday, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the names of Roger Penrose of the United Kingdom and Reinard Gansel of Germany and Andrea Gage of the United States for the award.
Penrose will receive half of the 10 million Swedish kronor for the Nobel Prize. And the other half will be divided by Gensel and Gauge. The award will be officially handed over to them on December 10 in Stockholm, Sweden's capital. James Pebbles of the United States, Michelle Mayo of Switzerland, and Didier Kello of the United Kingdom received the Nobel Prize in Physics last year to recognize the discovery of the first planets to orbit the Sun outside the solar system. As always, this year's Nobel season began on Monday with the announcement of the medical department's award. In recognition of discovering the hepatitis C virus, Harvey J. Alter and Charles Rice of the United States and Michael Hutton of the United Kingdom received the Nobel Prize in Medicine. The Nobel Prize in Chemistry announcement on Wednesday will be followed by the information of the Nobel Prize in Literature on Thursday. This year's Nobel Prize in Peace and Economics will be announced on Friday, October 12. |
