Iga Xiaotek was thrilled to win the Grand Slam final for the first time in her career in an incredible way. The 19-year-old Polish lost to Sophia Kenin of the United States in the women's singles final at the French Open.
Xiaotek won
the title fight 6-4, 6-1 in Roland Garon on Saturday. This teenager wore the
crown without losing any set.
She was the
first Polish woman in 61 years to reach the final of the French Open. This time
he became the first Grand Slam winner in the history of the country.
Xiaotek,
born on May 31, 2001, is the youngest person to win the Grand Slam on the clay
court since Monica Sales in 1992.
Two years
ago, junior Wimbledon champion Xiaotek's journey so far was astonishing, as if
he was on the cusp of success in the blink of an eye. There was that excitement
in his eyes in response to the end of the match.
"I
don't know what's going on. I am pleased. ”
"I won
a junior grand slam two years ago, and now I'm here. It seems like a short time.
I'm excited. "
Before
this year's French Open, Xiaotek's biggest success at the Grand Slam stage, reached the fourth round of the Australian Open earlier this year. And he
played in the third round of the US Open last month.
Then the astonishing journey began. In the fourth round, she defeated top seed and
two-time Grand Slam winner Simona Halep in a straight-set.
For the
first time on stage at the Grand Slam final, the opponent was Kenin, who won
the last Australian Open. However, Xiaotek was not seen suffering from such a
nervous breakdown. He won the title as the lowest-ranked player in the history
of the competition.
