Residents of various coastal areas of North and South Carolina are preparing to deal with Hurricane Isaiah, which is heading towards the eastern coast of the United States. |
Isaiah turned into a tropical storm after hitting the Caribbean
and killing two people.
After regaining power, it is now moving at 120 kilometers
per hour, according to a BBC report.
The NHC has warned of heavy rains due to Isaiah.
Rains have caused widespread flooding in some areas east
of the two Carolinas, leading to flash floods in some areas.
In northeastern South Carolina and North Carolina,
southern officials have warned of "deadly storms and tidal surges in parts
of the coastline and adjacent waterways."
The hurricane is expected to weaken after hitting.
According to the BBC, in addition to dealing with the
hurricane, officials in various states are now struggling to open shelters in
line with social distance guidelines.
Meanwhile, disaster management agencies have given
instructions on how to leave their homes for safe shelter and what kind of
preparation to take in case of natural calamities in Covid-19.
They also recommend hand sanitizers, soaps, disinfectant
tissues, and at least two masks for each person to protect against the new
coronavirus.
Stay 6 feet away from anyone who is not a family member
while in the shelter, wear a full-time mask if possible and keep it clean
regularly, do not share food and drink, and part of the shelter (including toys
and various electronics products). It has been asked to keep it clean with
disinfectant on.
