What secrets are hidden in the center of the earth
There is no end to the curiosity among scientists about
the center of the earth. Scientists have been studying the structure of the
center of the earth for ages. But this time, scientists have found a lot of
answers to that question. Geologists at the University of Maryland have
discovered a strange piece of information by recording seismic waves and sound
waves.
They said that
there is a strange structure in the center of the earth. They think there is a
possibility of deep, dense, hot rocks. The new research report was published in
the journal Science on June 12.
Analyzing data
from hundreds of large earthquakes, the University of Maryland researcher
Dwayne Kim and his colleagues found a new structure beneath the volcanic
Marquesas Island in the South Pacific. The structure is known as the Ultra-Low
Velocity (ULVZ) Zone. It is about 1000 km in diameter and 25 km thick.
The reason why
this structure is called ultra-low velocity is that the seismic waves pass
through it slowly. However, the matter of making it is still a mystery. These
structures may be chemically separate from the Earth's iron, nickel alloy cores,
and silicate rock mantles, or may have different thermal properties.
Researcher Kim
says that by knowing this, one can know how the structure of the earth has
evolved and how it has changed over time. The mantle of the earth is where the
movement is taking place and it is the tectonic plate and volcanic zone.
Identifying ULV regions will give you a better idea of whether some of the
volcanic sources are beneath the earth's crust and the structure of the earth.
