The EU opened the border, the Americans could be dropped from the list

The European
Union (EU) is set to reopen its borders with countries in the international
arena from July 1 after a long travel ban due to the coronavirus. |
U.S. citizens are being barred from entering EU countries
for failing to handle the coronavirus. In addition, some countries with high
levels of coronavirus infection are on the list.
While many European countries are keen to reintroduce
international travel for foreign tourists, other countries are concerned about
the spread of coronavirus infection.
That is why European countries are compiling a list of
countries from which it is safe to allow travelers to enter the EU and which
countries are not safe in view of the coronavirus situation.
The European Commission has advised EU ambassadors to list
only those countries that have handled the coronavirus situation better or
better than the EU.
EU ambassadors discussed the plan on Wednesday. Several
countries, including the United States, have been left out of the draft list,
The New York Times reported. The final decision could be made next week, the
newspaper said.
Brazil, Peru, Chile, Panama, and Saudi Arabia currently have
the highest rates of virus infection, according to the latest coronavirus
statistics from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, the
European Union's health agency.
In the United States and Russia, meanwhile, the per capita
infection rate is now lower as a population, but still higher than most
European countries.
However, as the rate of infection is not the same in all
regions of the United States, the two EU officials said that they are
considering whether to impose travel bans on the most infected areas without
imposing travel bans on citizens of the whole country.
The omission of the United States from the EU's travel list
would be a major blow to the country's image in the world. The move would also
be retaliation for President Trump.
Because of concerns about the coronavirus earlier this year,
Trump imposed travel restrictions on many European countries. He said in May
that the coronavirus situation in Europe had improved, but that it had not.
