Moon shrugged at Kim's sister's rebuke

Moon Jae-in and Kim Yoo-Jung

Although calm for a while, relations between North Korea and South Korea have heated up again. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's sister Kim Yoo-Jung has warned of retaliatory military action against South Korea if anti-North leaflets and balloons are not sent across the border. He made the threat in a statement sent to North Korea's state news agency KCNA on Saturday. The South Korean president has responded to the warning Moon J-in. He called for an end to tensions and a return to talks.

Moon met with senior officials on Monday to discuss security on the Korean Peninsula. Citing the 2016 Kim-Moon conference as an example, South Korean President Moon said, "We cannot break the promise made by Chairman Kim Jong-un to our 70 million people to bring peace to the Korean Peninsula." Disconnecting North Korea should not have escalated tensions. Let's put past conflicts behind us and sit down to discuss. I hope all complex issues can be resolved through communication and cooperation. '

Last week, North Korea disconnected the two countries 'leaders' hotline. Kim's sister Yoo-Jung then stated Saturday warning South Korea. Although not officially, Yeo-Jung is currently working as one of Kim Jong-un's top associates.

In a statement, Kim's sister threatened military action against South Korea. Yo-Jung said, "With the supreme leader, my party, and the power given by the state, I have instructed the department in charge of dealing with the enemy to take further action."

Many have fled North Korea and taken refuge in South Korea. The two sides are at loggerheads over sending anti-North leaflets and messages across the border. Kim Yeo-Jung, Kim's sister, threatened to pay a "heavy price" if the fugitives could not stop him.
