South Korean electronics maker Samsung has received patent approval for three new foldable smartphones. |
Samsung applied for the new patent in April this year at the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). Each design has a 'cutout' inside for the camera.
Technology site Verge reports that Samsung received the patent approval on October 15. The patent is a foldable electronic device with multiple camera modules. Samsung has shown three different designs in the patent. In two of these designs, the device will be folded outwards, like the Huawei Mate X foldable device. In another design, the device will be folded inwards, like the Galaxy Z Fold2. All three designs have some space cut on the front screen so that the camera can be seen even if the device is folded. Samsung has also applied for a patent for a 'scalable' screen smartphone. In this new design, the customer can enlarge the screen of the device when needed. Last month, Samsung unveiled the new Galaxy Z Fold 2 foldable smartphone. It is the company's third foldable smartphone after the Galaxy Z Flip. |
